Phoenix AC Monaghan organised a Run on Sunday, July 24th 2011 to raise funds for the club. There were two routes - a 10 mile one which took the contestants from the Four Seasons Hotel to town and then out to Ballinode and back to the Four Seasons and the other was into town and back to base via Blackwater Vale. Patrick Cassidy, Glaslough, led all the way and was first over the line in the 10 mile. Karl Kildea was in 2nd place. It was a very successful event though some of those doing the 4 Mile expressed disappointed that the Finish line for them was so indistinct. It looked as if they did not count even though they had paid a good entry fee. The two finishing lines should have been at same point perhaps. The nondescript Certificate handed to them afterwards was a throw-away rather than a keepsake. Perhaps this is something the organisers would need to give some attention to for next year, if they want participants to enter the 4 mile run. Patrick Murphy was first home in the 4 mile and Amy Hamill was 1st Girl home.
