Monaghan Lions Club Annual Charter.

Monaghan Lions Club was founded 20 years ago by a group of people who felt that they could help people in need through this international organisation. There are 1.35 million members in 45,000 clubs in 206 countries of the world whose motto is - ‘We Serve’. Because the clubs are local they can identify needs and bring help where help is needed immediately and more efficiently than other organisations. Because it is international it can have great reserves of resources to get the job done quickly.
Monaghan Lions Club has assisted many organisations and individuals over the past 20 years. Most of these have been within the County but the Club must also assist National and International calls for aid too. Every cent raised by Lions Clubs goes to the charities and is spent on aid to someone somewhere as the Lions do not charge any administration fees. All administration and expenses are met by the Lions personally. Last year Monaghan Lions raised and distributed €130,000. One of the main reasons Lions was set up was to bring sight to the blind and assist those with sight problems. This is still a major part of Lions work and Monaghan contributes to the national Council for the Blind; to the Childrens’ Eye section in Temple Street Hospital and by producing a Newspaper for the Blind every fortnight in Monaghan.
Obviously to have funds to distribute the Lions Club has to raise money and the Annual Charter Night is one of the central events for doing so. This was held in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan, on Saturday night last Dec 11th and it was well attended and the annual auction was very generously supported by patrons on the night. It was also a very enjoyable night with great food, great music and plenty of entertainment. The main beneficiary of the night will be the Alzheimer Society at Drumkill, Threemilehouse, which does fantastic work and needs constant support. The Club will organise other events during the year, like a Golf Classic on May Bank Holiday Monday, and it has the reputation of having excellent prizes. If you can help at any stage please consider it as we stress - every cent goes to a worthy cause.
