Emyvale minor team faced Scotstown in Tully in the first round of the 2011 Minor Championship on Tuesday, July 19th. From early on it was clear that the hone team had a tough task in front of them and soon they had a mountain to climb. Scotstown were playing with a fairly strong breeze behind them and they took advantage of it for the full 30 minutes. They lobbed high balls in and the Emyvale defence had a difficult struggle to stop the onslaught. Some of the taller players may have been pulled back to challenge for the high balls but Scotstown kept coming forward and adding scores almost at will. The second half saw Emyvale coming into the game a little more but inaccurate shooting left them still trailing or slipping further behind. In the end, with a scoreline of 0 - 9 to 3 - 14, the might of the Scotstown lads was too much to handle. However it was disappointing that some of the Emyvale lads were unable to reach their potential in this game while others seemed to throw in the towel early on and left the battle to a few committed players who showed determination and drive and gave it all they had for the entire game.
