John Murray Walk

The John Murray Walk turned out to be a Festival day at Knockatallon with plenty of entertainment and activity throughout the day. However the main event was the walk which was led by john Murray and other celebrities. About 300 walkers from all over the country joined local ramblers to complete the circuit. Registration began at 11am and while everyone awaited the start there was chatting and a sharing of stories all about. Entertainment was supplied by various musical groups and there was tea and scones for all. Members of Monaghan Vintage Club had a display of cars, tractors and stationary engines. Then at the appointed time - 12 noon - members of the Lisnagrieve Pipe Band led the jolly walkers off towards the Trá Walk and the Bragan mountain. There were stops and rest times and more entertainment, with John Walker compiling sufficient material for his programme by interviewing various personalities. The full walk was timed for about 4 hours, including the stops, and then it was back to the Sliabh Beagh Hotel for more food, more rest, more entertainment, and more chatting, and the weather was kind enough on the day too.
