The ‘NED RUN’ 2012

The final preparations are being made for the second annual 5 mile charity run will take place this Saturday, August 4th at 4.30pm. The run starts at the Páirc Mhuire Scotstown GAA grounds, heads back into Scotstown village, left on Main Street, right past Hollywood Park, right again at Hamilton’s Cross, on to McPhillips’ Cross, right on to the Bog Road and straight through the village back to Páirc Mhuire. It is an accurate, timed five mile course with times recorded for everyone finishing within the hour. There will be a clock at the finish line for all competitors to note their individual time.

This year there are perpetual trophies on offer for the first competitors across the line in the Male and Female categories. Along with the individual prizes, there will also be competitions for the fastest GAA Club, fastest pub team and the quickest Mr and Mrs. There will be family entertainment (including the recreational football finals, face-painting, music) and an evening barbecue.

You can beat the rush and pre-register for this year's run by returning completed entry forms with the €10 fee to Scotstown Post Office. There will also be an opportunity to register on Friday evening from 7.30pm – 9.30pm in the Complex. We will also be accepting donations of cakes, bracks and the like on Friday evening/Saturday morning at the Complex. These will help recharge the batteries of the walkers and runners after the event. Registration on the day of the race will be from 2pm. There will be some traffic restrictions in operation in and around Scotstown for the duration of the run. Marshalls will be on hand to direct traffic, although it would be advisable for drivers not attending the run to avoid the Urbleshanney / Scotstown / Hollywood / Bog Road areas between 4pm and 7pm on Saturday afternoon. Disruption will be kept to a minimum and the co-operation of all road-users is appreciated.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Irish Heart Foundation and Monaghan Hospice Home Care.
