Chilean Visitors to Monaghan

A group of four Chileans, relations of Cecelia McKenna, former Chilean Ambassador to Ireland and former Chieftain to the McKenna Clann, arrived for a visit to Monaghan on Thursday, May 12th. They made contact with Willie McKenna and a meeting was organised with members of the McKenna Clann. During the day they paid a visit to Emyvale and enjoyed lunch there and then to Glaslough, where they were able to get a tour through the Castle. The appreciated the assistance of Pat Keogh who made sure that they visited the important places around Emyvale and Glaslough. They then visited the ancestral home - Willville - from which their forefather departed to Chile and this was a great moment for them. Benny McKenna, Maria McKenna and Peter McKenna along with Willie had a meeting with them in the Westenra Hotel prior to their departure back to Dublin. Venalita’s mother was McKenna and she remembers her grandfather, Willie McKenna, and they told her all about Ireland and she promised that one day she would visit. I hope they had a safe journey and that they go home with pleasant memories of Monaghan. I also hope Bernardita found her lens cap.
