Friday evening June 17th and Emyvale meets Clontibret in the quarter-final of the
Crawley Cup in Tully. This Emyvale team has done well in the League but so also has
Clontibret and they would have gone into this game as slight favourites. For the
first 20 minutes it was a very close game with good play from both sides and great
determination being shown by all. Then a dubious penalty was awarded to Clontibret,
which they converted and the quality of the game went down hill from there. Further
decisions helped to get spirits raised and a number of yellow cards were necessary.
It was now a dogged tough game with Clontibret coming out the better on the scoreboard
and they went nine points ahead. Even though the home side brought that back to within
four points they were unable to bridge the gap and in the end Clontibret forged ahead
again and had nine to spare at the end with a score of 0 - 14 to 4 - 11. A good game
spoiled but some very good performances for Emyvale on the night and lots to build
on for the future.
