Rural Enabler - Respect For All.

Rural Respect Week Celebrates Diversity in Co Monaghan

On Thursday 26th May Truagh Development Association, supported by the Rural Enabler Programme, hosted an evening of Intercultural Music in the Blackwater Valley Learning Centre. A large audience drawn from both sides of the border enjoyed performances by the Blackwater Voice Choir, Ellen Smyth Mc Intyre, Eimear McKenna, The Bawn Silver Band and the Lithuanian Community Choir.

Ciara King of Truagh Development said: ‘This evening was about highlighting and celebrating the diversity of cultures that exist in our communities. It was an opportunity to learn more about cultural traditions we may not be familiar with. We are delighted that so many people were interested enough to attend the event. We are grateful to the Bawn Silver Band and the Lithuanian Community Choir who were both first time visitors to our centre. It was great to make that connection with new groups and we certainly hope they will come back in the future’.

The Rural Enabler Programme is funded under the European Union’s Peace III Programme through the Special EU Programme’s Body, and delivered by Rural Community Network..
