On the August Bank Holiday weekend 2010 the people of Knockatallon celebrated the
tenth anniversary of the opening of the Sliabh Beagh Hotel. On Thursday night, July
29 the Canadian Ambassador, Pat Binns, and a group of 48 Canadian visitors attended
the function to officially begin the celebrations. Public representatives and the
County Manager attended. The event began with dinner followed by the formal speeches
from Mary Mullen, Chairperson of Knockatallon Development Company; Jackie Crowe,
County Mayor; Declan Neslon, County Manager; Don McDonald, Community Development;
Willie McKenna, promoter of the Irish/Canadian link; and the Ambassador, Pat Binns.
Many words of praise and congratulations were extended to the committee responsible
for the planning, implementation and continue management of this successful community
venture and best wishes for the future were tendered. Local children provided entertainment
for all present and then there was music and dance for the remainder of the night.
A
full programme of activity to suit all ages was planned for the weekend and the people
of North Monaghan could not complain about having nothing to do - from walking to
bouncing castles and dancing to leg waxing - the programme has it.
Below we have some
photographic coverage and if an image has ‘Click HERE’ you can hear a a clip from
the speech.
