Blacksmiths
From the 23rd to the 26th of June International Blacksmiths gathered in Monaghan for the International festival. Forges were set up with special cover in the Diamond and Church Square and the blacksmiths plied their trade for the public to see, exam and admire or whatever. There was a buzz about the town on Friday with the Farmers Market and the Buskers weekend in the special marquee in Church Square together with the Blacksmiths. Not everyone was happy with what was going on and the difficulty of getting into, around and out of town was a complaint for some. Some shopkeepers claimed that things were quieter than usual even with the added influx of people. The pity is that all came together along with the National Cycling Championships and that Monaghan  could have had greater benefit had they been over three weekends. You cannot win em all.
