EMYVALE
Emyvale Boxing Tournament.
The newly reformed Emyvale Boxing Club held its first Boxing Tournament on Saturday,
February 5th in the Four Seasons Hotel. A good crowd supported the event and they
were given value for money with some excellent fights during the 18 Bout programme.
The Club expressed hanks to all who had helped to make the event a success and that
included the many generous sponsors. We have a few photos of the various contests
but you will have to search for anyone you know.
One nice gesture was the introduction
of a Special Perpetual Shield, which would be presented to the ‘Best Emyvale Club
Boxer on the Night’. The Shield is dedicated to the memory of three great men who
were involved with the original Emyvale Club but now gone to their eternal reward.
They are: Jimmy Skinnader, Jimmy McKenna (Big Tree) and Rory McCann and it is wonderful
that the present club has thought fit to honour their memory in this way. Jimmy McKenna’s
son, Noel, and Rory’s son, Shane, and grandson, Donal, were present to present the
prizes during the night and the Shield at the end of the tournament. The first winner
was James McKenna.
