The Taste of Monaghan Hits the Road in 2019 The annual Taste of Monaghan Festival is hitting the road and is set to take an exciting new turn with the Monaghan Street Food Festival! Since 2010 the Taste of Monaghan has offered unique food experiences, products, and education all in one spot under a marquee. This year the committee is thrilled to announce that we will be moving the festival into the center of town and on to the streets for a festival offering things for the whole family. Coming in 5th in Ireland’s Foodie Destinations Award in 2018, Monaghan/Glaslough has also secured a place in the top nine for 2019. Judging for final placement of the winners of Foodie Destinations Ireland is currently underway. You can have your say at www.foodiedestinations.ie. The online votes count 30% towards the total score, so every vote counts. The judges have recognized that Monaghan has tastes for every palette and the Street Food Festival is a place for locals and visitors alike to try new things and make connections with producers responsible for the bounty offered in the drumlins. The Monaghan Street Food Festival is a free one-day festival that will be held on 28 September 2019 right in the center of Monaghan Town from 11 am to 7 pm. This year’s event will be a celebration of the ever-changing food scene in Monaghan. Visitors can draw inspiration from demonstrations delivered by a host of talented local chefs who will showcase the rich local produce in creative ways. Food trucks have come along way from the humble chipper and are on the rise across the world as well as in Ireland. While in previous generations a food truck may have been a simple delivery method for food on the streets of any local town, now they serve as lower cost and more mobile way for chefs to try out a new concept that may not have been available in more established restaurants. The streetfood scene is one of the fastest growing markets and many caterers are making it big by concentrating on a few dishes and doing them very well. The Monaghan Street Food Festival will offer a selection of food trucks. Some of the local Street food connoisseurs will be familiar with “Blasta Street Kitchen” and their Tex-Mex/ barbeque style, whilst “Turtle & Hare” will wow visitors with their delectable gluten-free baked treats. The event will also feature “Fire & Feast”, “The Hungry Hipster” & “Coffee Doc” to name a few. All will be using local products in their unique dishes. In addition to street food, we will welcome back some of our local and celebrity chefs to our demonstration kitchen which will be hosted in Church Square thanks to our sponsor Flo Gas, to display their favorite ways to prepare local ingredients in the home using simple techniques that can be mastered by any home cook. The Street Food Festival will celebrate the food and products of Monaghan. It will focus on eating sustainably, and locally while also reducing waste. The event will welcome back Joe Shannon as MC for the event and Chef Sham Hanifa of the Cottage restaurant, all the chefs on the demonstration stage and in the street food trucks, will be using and highlighting the outstanding products available locally. Entertainment for the kids including live performances, face painting, and games plus craft vendors will make Monaghan Town the place to be for the whole family on the 28th of September.
