Remember Gary Askin
The 7th Annual Run To Remember Gary Askin took place on Friday July 26th with the Starting and Finishing line at Emyvale GAA HQ in Tully. Again this year a huge number took part and it was the scene of great chat and friendship among the gathering. Gary’s family members were there and the Late Gary was on the minds of all. The start was as planned with a run towards Emy Lake and then round the Lake and back to base. All returned in safety and were delighted with themselves for completing the challenge. More chatting continued as there was no rush to get away. Of course refreshments were available throughout the day and it was’nt just the children who enjoyed the Ice Cream. The winners were announced and the Cups presented by Laura Askin to the winners. For the Ladies Lily McCann was the winner with Eve Curley in 2nd and Claire Deery in 3rd. For the Males Patrick J McKenna was presented with the Cup with Johnny McCarron in 2nd and Aaron McCaffrey in 3rd. Well done to the winners and indeed to all who completed the Run. Thanks to the Stewards and organising committee for having everything well planned and carried out without a hitch. Thanks to the Askin family for their contribution to the event and a big thank you for the donations received and this will be presented to worthy causes in due course. Well done to the hundreds who turned out and participated in so many different ways to make the event another great success.
This hurler is a young man called Charlie Buckley, so I am told, and his mother is a Monaghan lady formerly McGinn but now in Cork. This young man will end up playing for Cork in an All-Ireland final and he will likely be Captain and collect the Cup because I saw his ability as pictured here.
