Christmas Day Swim Emy Lake After a three year Covid related break the annual Christmas Day Swim returned to Emy Lake in 2022. Monaghan Branch of Parents and Friends of Persons with an Intellectual Disability were delighted to welcome back swimmers and spectators to their 2022 fundraising event. The swim took place at 1pm at Emy Lake, Emyvale. Over 70 swimmer took part and hot soup was available to all after the swim. A huge crowd of spectators attended and locals met with locals, who were home for the holiday and the chatting continued long after the swim was over. This year Parents and Friends will donate the proceeds to another local charity, Errigal Truagh Special Needs, a day activation centre for adults with physical/intellectual disabilities, to fund respite for service users and their families in 2023. Members of that committee were present and assisted in sharing out the soup, which was donated by Castle Leslie. The organisers thanked the various organisation and individuals who assisted at the event including Dungannon Search and Rescue, Monaghan Civil Defence, Murphy Services, Victor and Cormac Watterson, those involved in supply and erection of Tenting, and the stewards who regulated traffic and general help, those who promoted the event and a huge thank you to all who contributed to the fund and all who took part in the swim itself. Some people may not have had an opportunity to make a donation but if you would like to make a donation or sponsor a swimmer you can do this via GoFundMe, https://gofund.me/ed3e84c0 or pass your donation to any Parents and Friends representative.
