Entertainment Emyvale 1977 Style. On March 13th 1977 Emyvale Young Singers presented a Pantomime in the DPC (Donagh Parochial Centre where Emyvale Leisure Centre now stands). It was called ‘Saint Paddy and The Culchies’ and was a pantomime of twelve scenes and after each scene there was a musical presentation by youngsters playing a variety of musical instruments and singing. It played to a packed house and was a very enjoyable night. There was a huge cast and many helpers and we name as many as we can: Dr. Who – Pauline McLernon; Patrick – Brendan O’Neill; Jester 1 (Ding) – Val O’Brien; Jester 2 (Dong) – Enda O’Brien; Temptation – Nuala Connolly; Niall of the Nine Hostages – Stephen McMeel; Warriors – Padraig McKenna, Patrick O’Neill, John Loughran; Auctioneer – Miriam McKenna; Bingo Woman – Eunice McQuillan; Milchu – Farona McQuaid; Angel – Geraldine Treanor; The Big Shepherd – Gerry Feeney; Captain – Mairead McKernan; Lost Sailor – Bernadette McAreavey; His companion – Patricia Treanor; Patrick’s father – Eugene O’Brien; Patrick’s mother – Maria McKenna; The Cow – John Loughran and John Kelly; A Farmer – Aiden McMeel; Queen Maeve – Maeve Hackett; Dan O’Hara – Ann McMahon; Druidess – Catriona McCormack; King Laoghaire – Finola McMeel; Attendants – Jacqueline Murphy, Marina McCluskey; Doctor – Raymond McCluskey; Other Warriors – John Kelly and Damien Kerr.
