Rotary President Function 2011

The Monaghan Rotary Annual President’s Dinner Dance was held in the Four Seasons Hotel on Friday April 8th. We are giving this year’s function special attention as the President has very close Emyvale links, Her Mother is Brigid nee Hughes from Main Street, and her Father is Pat Corrigan from Emy.
Together with her family and friends, Monaghan President, Sinead Corrigan, celebrated Rotary with fellow Rotarians and friends from Monaghan and other neighbouring Clubs. The District Governor of Ireland, Wes Armstrong, was also present. The function was also honoured to have His Excellency, Emil Yalnasov, the Bulgarian Ambassador to Ireland and his wife among the guests.

After a sumptuous meal the Master of Ceremonies, Peter O’Reilly, conducted the formalities and introduced the various speakers. The District Governor congratulated Sinead and the Monaghan Rotary for the great work they are doing and encouraged the community to support their efforts. The proceeds of the night are to be donated to the Monaghan Branch of MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and Mary McDermott of the local Branch described the work that is being done for the benefit of those suffering from MS and for their families.

Sinead, in her address, said that she was delighted to be able to assist this organisation and thanked them for giving of their time and energy in their efforts to bring relief to others. She also thanked all those who have helped Monaghan Rotary and paid tribute to her fellow Rotarians for their support to her during her time as President and before. She presented a Bouquet of Flowers to the Ambassadors wife, and a Hand-Carved Rotary Wheel to the District Governor. She thanked all who had attended the function and who had supported the draw.

The Auction came next and Gareth Corrigan, cousin of the President and from Glaslough, squeezed every cent he could from a lively and bidding audience and there was a nice total at the end. Those who purchased went home with excellent items and Sinead thanks those who submitted the prizes for Auction and Raffle.
The night continued with dancing to the Band of Gold, which also had Emyvale girl - singer Caroline.
