Emy Lake Walkway

The Emy Lake Walkway has proven a very beneficial project and a major success for Donagh Development Association, who, despite many setbacks persevered and completed the walkway. The numbers using the facility is huge and the so many are travelling quite a distance to enjoy the walk around one of the most picturesque lakes and habitats in the country. The surface of the walkway was not completed and parts of the path were uneven and troublesome to walkers but there was no source of funding, bar fundraising, available to the committee in order to put a final surface covering on the path. A donation box was constructed and erected by local engineering firm, McCarron Engineering, Knockronaghan, at the walkway entrance  and this began to take in some funding as people using the facility could drop a small donation into the box and a number of small donations soon added to a more considerable amount and the committee is very appreciative of the gesture by McCarron Engineering and also of the people who have given donations. Already the committee, with assistance from other fund-raising events, have succeeded in top surfacing part of the walkway but require further monies to complete this work and provide a fund for on-going maintenance into the future. The DDA organised a Table Quiz in the Redboys on Friday 28th of November to enable them to continue the upgrading of the pathway. This was another opportunity for those who appreciate the facility to organise a team and support the Quiz. There was a fair turn-out but disappointing that the support for the Quiz was not greater in order to upgrade the surface of the walkway. Nevertheless it was a great night of Fun with Paddy Flood as Quizmaster and top class hospitality from Redboy and his staff. The DDA would like to thank all who helped on the night, who took part in the quiz and all those who sponsored prizes. We have some photos below from the Quiz
