U3A Quiz Well done to both U3A Monaghan teams who participated in the Annual U3A Quiz held in Belfast on Friday last. Team 1, Colette and Tony Keenan, Peter McAvinney and Peter Cullen  were Joint Overall winners, beating Team 2, Jim and Geraldine Kelly, Frances McQuaid and Mary Devlin by a short head. Gardening/ Sourdough Bread. On Thursday, March 21st  at 2.30, we will have an informal talk on “Gardening and Growing”  at Gortakeegan to launch the beginning of Spring. Jim Kelly and Brendan Lillis will be on hand to share their expertise and knowledge, give tips and answer questions on gardening. Later, we will plan some garden visits over a cup of coffee. On the same afternoon, Lorraine Martin will share her expertise in how to make Sourdough Bread, as well as demonstrating how to create wild yeast. So, for a very different afternoon which promises to be really enjoyable, put this date in your diaries! Poems and Pints This event, which takes place every third Thursday, is proving very popular with many U3A Members. The next night for Poems and Pints is March 21st, in Maggie’s Bar in Ballinode at 8.00 pm. Walks Next week’s walk on Wednesday, March 27th is to Spring Grove, Roslea. Meet at Smithborough GAA Grounds at 10.00am. Free Computer Classes Age Action is running FREE  beginner computer classes  for over 55’s in Monaghan town starting 21st March 2019We train people on Laptops, iPads, Smartphones or Tablets The classes are for older people who have little or no computer experience (or for the absolutely terrified!). The aim of the Getting Started programme is to introduce people to the basics of computers, internet and email. Classes are taught by trained volunteer tutors from St Macartan’s and St Louis schools on a one to one basis in a relaxed, non-formal setting. We are looking for students/learners to enrol Call  Age Action now on 01 475 6989 to enrol. Coffee and Craic. Every Wednesday in Smithborough Hall around 3.00. Drop in for an informal Coffee/ Tea and a chat. All welcome. Book Club The next Book Club meeting is on Thursday 28th March in The Four Seasons Hotel at 2.30pm. The book for this month is Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh and is currently available from Monaghan Library. New members always welcome U3A Monthly Talk The Guest Speaker for our monthly talk, which takes place on Friday, March 29th  at 11.00 am in Gortakeegan is Ryan O’Neill, a Senior Clinical Psychologist. Ryan will speak on Stress and how it affects all of us in today’s world. Line Dancing Line Dancing  for Beginners will begin in Gortakeegan on Monday, April 1st, at 10.45. Text 087 343 2275 to book a place. Pilates Pilates class takes place on Tuesdays at 3.30 and is taught by Jeanette Keenan. This takes place in Gortakeegan.   Bring your own mat and towel . We also have a Flexibility class on Thursdays in the Gym Club, Milltown, at 9.30am. This class is especially helpful for bone strength.  Coffee Morning, every Thursday, around eleven, in Graham’s Coffee Shop.
