U21 Division 2 Final 2018

Emyvale faced Aughnamullen in the Division 2 final of the U21 competition for the Kerley Cup. The final was played in Tyholland on a fine Friday evening. The pitch was in excellent shape despite the harsh dry weather of the past weeks and well done to the club officials for their hospitality and good preparation work. The game itself was somewhat of a mismatch as this Aughnamullen team had players who sampled success at minor level and were really Division 1 material. However Emyvale showed their determination and sportsmanship to the bitter end and at one stage looked as if they were making a comeback but Aughnamullen had the final say and won with a scoreline of 2 - 20 to 3 - 11. Sean McKenna, representing the County Board, presented the Kerley Cup to their captain, Kevin Sheridan.  Emyvale defence was tested with strong performances from Michael Bannigan and the two Duffy's with Kevin Sheridan playing a captain's role but Emyvale were well served by Ben McKenna, Michael O'Brien, Matthew McQuaid, Darragh Boyle and Robbie McAllister. They also have a Rory Beggan in the making with the powerful and well placed kick-outs from keeper Eoghan Treanor. Well done to Enda O'Brien, Seamus O'Neill, Colin Donnelly, and Pauric Treanor of the management team for their work and Congratulations to a very good Aughnamullen squad managed by John Joe Gorman, David Shevlin and Brian McArdle.

This umpiring job is very demanding and few ever say thank you to them and very seldom will they appear in photos but we recognise good work, when we see it, and admire people, who do this thankless task, when they do it with their eyes open. In this case - well done boys.
