U15 Division 2 Championship Final 2018

On Thursday July 26th 2018 Scotstown and Clones met in the final of the Division 2  U15 Championship Final in Tully, Emyvale. Clones went into this game as hot favourites and early on they showed their superiority and took a commanding lead though Scotstown was making it difficult for them. However the second half was a different game and Scotstown lads began to take control and the goals began to come and both sides were giving everything to win this game. A great comeback for Scotstown and then Clones took over again but once again Scotstown came back and at the end of normal time the sides were level. This was a game to enjoy by a neutral spectator like myself as there was a fantastic display of passion and skill from both sides and plenty of passion from the mentors on the sideline. So we then had extra time and just 2 x 7 minutes to claim victory. Once again the passion flowed and excitement reached dangerous levels for anyone with a weak heart and Clones then showed that little extra to take the lead and finish in front but there was nothing in it to the dying seconds with a final scoreline of 5 - 10 to 4 - 9. One Clones mentor could not believe that 1 minute was such a long time!! Francie Ward rightly congratulated both sides as no one deserved to lose this game but Clones did what was necessary to get over the line. Francie presented the P.J. Marry Memorial Cup to Conor McElwain and Hugh McDonald and the celebrations began.
