Truagh Fun Day 2019: The weekend of May 4th, 5th and 6th was nationally assigned as The Big Hello weekend when communities all over the country were invited to organise a community event to offer an opportunity for everyone in the community to reconnect with neighbours and have a celebration together that is open, inclusive and local. Truagh organised their day for Sunday, May 5th and drew up a very extensive, varied and attractive programme of events for the day based at the St. Mellans HQ. The programme included - Tea Party/Coffee Morning and Archive Display (10am-12.30pm); Car Treasure Hunt (from 12.30pm), Fun Activities (3pm-6pm) including Townland Parade, Hurling & Football Blitz, Handball Display, Egg & Spoon Race, Wheelbarrow Race, Sack Race, 3 Legged Race, Tug-O-War, Toy Tractor Run, Penalty Shootout & Much More. Over 35 Recreational Match commencing at 6pm. All Day Game BBQ with Music & Local Talent. promising something for everyone in the community. I attended for some time during the afternoon and things were humming. In the time that I was there the youth of the parish, and indeed the not so young, expended as much energy as would supply CombiLift with power for a week. There was plenty of fun and no doubt many many tired legs before bedtime. The weather was clement and helped to bring the crowds and make a big success of the venture. Well done to all involved. A selection of images will hopefully give you a flavour of the day though not all all aspects are covered.
