The weekend of August 2nd, 3rd and 4th was Captain’s Weekend at Rossmore Golf Course. Captain Pat McMorrow held his weekend and almost 250 golfers took part in the competition. It all hit off on Friday with very favourable conditions and again on Saturday but a ‘monsoon’ in the evening time dampened the fairways and the greens but not the spirits. The play-offs on Sunday attracted great attention as they battled it out for a place on the winners list and again the rain came down as they final couple of rounds were being played. On Sunday night the prize-giving took place in the refurbished Clubhouse and there was a big crowd for a very social occasion. Matt Watters was MC and he welcomed everyone present and called on the Captain to announce the winners. Prior to presentations the Captain thanked individuals who had been a terrific help to him over the weekend and he stated that the committee and staff in charge of the course were complimented by everyone for the fantastic course and the excellent conditions all around. He thanked the Secretary, Kathleen, as well as the President Nancy and Lady Captain Therese, his family, Chairman John Heffernan and Pro Ciaran Smyth for their support. The winners were then announced and called forward to receive their excellent prizes presented by the Captain and the Captain’s daughter, Carole. The list consisted of: Junior winners - Matthew Finn, Conor O’Neill, Joseph O’Neill, Ruairi Smyth and Siun Malone.
