Irish Restaurants Awards 2019: Over the years Monaghan, town and county, has built up a terrific reputation for the quality of its hotels and restaurants, which attract big numbers of customers from far and wide and solidly supported by locals. Each year the Irish Restaurants Awards select winners in each county of Ireland to represent the County and Province in the All-Ireland Awards. There are 16 categories and this gives more restaurants an opportunity to get the promotion and it helps to maintain high standards in more premises. However there were some disappointments, I’m sure, as there were a huge number of nominations in each section with only one winner. That in itself tells us that there are many deserving winners and top class establishments in which to enjoy good food in comfortable surroundings. The Monaghan winners were: Best Restaurant - Courthouse, Carrickmacross; Best Chef - Conor Mee; Best Newcomer - Kinga’s Cafe; Best Hotel and Guest House Restaurant - Snaffles, Castle Leslie; Best Manager - Shane Treanor, Porky’s in Squealing Pig; Best Customer Service - Snaffles; Best café - Dinkins; Pub of the Year - Coach House and Olde Bar, Glaslough; Best Wine - Fiddlers Bistro, Carrick; Best Gastro Pub - Andy’s; Best World Cuisine - Eastern Balti; Best ‘Free From’ - Neighbourhood; Best Kids Size Me - Meeting House; Best Emerging irish Cuisine - Andy’s; Best Casual Dining - Batch Loaf; Best Local Food Hero for Monaghan and Ulster is Trevor Connolly. Myself and Ann were invited guests with the Chilli Lounge, Indian Restaurant, on Main Street, Cavan, and we were delighted that they won the Best World Cuisine for County Cavan. Although only a little over a year in existence the Chilli Lounge has become an extremely popular dining place and is highly recommended for the quality of its food and the quality of its service and the ambience of the restaurant helps to make a visit there a very enjoyable experience. Congratulations to all the winners and also to all those who were nominated. We were chatting to the staff from Robertos and even though they were not named among the winners they were still winners for being nominated. I was able to get photos of some of the Monaghan winners as follows:
