Rally Launch 2018

The launch of the 2018 Monaghan FourSeasonsHotel Stages Rally took place at the Four Seasons Hotel, on Thursday, April 5th. The Stages Rally will take place on Sunday, April 22nd with all the preparation work on Saturday. This event draws the highest number of people to the Monaghan region each year and 2018 will likely be no different, especially if it is a dry weekend weather wise. However this year it appears that many of the 'big names', the top drivers, will be in action in Monaghan and this will attract an even bigger crowd. Monaghan is a great county for Rallying with a big number of participants all of whom have a big following to man every possible viewing spot. There is a major problem of insurance in relation to the sport and everyone needs to take responsibility for their own and others safety. There are very strict rules and demands by Motorsports Ireland in order to ensure the safety of all and any breach of these and the Rally could be stopped completely and no one wants that. The competing teams and the organising Club (Monaghan Motor Club) have taken this issue very seriously and so it is now up to each and every individual to obey the safety instructions and to use common sense so that you and others are not put in any danger. There is also a need for more volunteers to steward and marshal the event. There are three stages, run three times, and some of the stages have a big number of link roads and lanes which have to be manned. If you would like to or can give a few hours of your time to help out the Club would be very appreciative.
All this and more was discussed at the Launch, which has the Four Seasons Hotel as HQ but service will be as last year. The Club has organised many areas for parking and people are advised to use the official parking places. Sean McCaffrey, after the launch photos, compered a chat time in the Hotel and interviewed various people involved in the Rally. COC Brendan Flynn, Chairman Conor Maguire, Deputy COC Eoghan Corr, Ex-President Motorsport Ireland Martin McKenna, Niall Maguire, and Four Seasons Hotel proprietor Frank McKenna were among those interviewed. There was also a Draw for Free Entry to rally and this went to Mark Wedlock, Cavan, who was delighted and will certainly be a participant. We spoke to Niall Maguire beforehand and you can hear what he had to say by clicking on his image below.
