Patsy Whelan Retires: On Friday, May 24th 2019 Patsy Whelan retired as an employee of Silver Hill Farm after 56 years of devoted service. A special party was organised by management and many former workers were invited back as were a big number of Patsy’s friends. The formalities included words of praise and thanks expressed by CEO Michael Briody, a glowing tribute from Canon P. Marron, and a review of his life with the Steele family and Silver Hill staff over the 56 years from Patsy in reply. The Duck Farm was set up by Ronnie and Lyla Steele in 1962 and Patsy was one of he first employees in 1963. He has witnessed all the changes which have taken place over the years and the business expanding to the huge producer and exporter of duck it is today. Patsy recalled many events of his time and the many friends he worked with, many of whom had joined with him today in this celebration. He thanked the Steele family for their friendship and employment during the 56 years and wished them well. He presented a Bouquet of Flowers to Stuart Steele, which was for Lyla, who was unable to be present. He also presented a Bouquet to Mrs McElvaney, a very good and close friend of his family in Threemilehouse and another for his excellent neighbour, Mai McAree. Stuart Steele and Michael Briody presented Patsy with a watch and the best wishes of Silver Hill Farm. There was food served and all enjoyed the occasion which was a celebration of the success story of the business and a salute to all those who assisted in that expansion and development as employees. We wish Patsy a very happy and healthy retirement and we would doubt if he will be idle many days going forward.
