Nollaig na mBan 2019: January 6th is known as Nollaig na mBan and it was a tradition that on that day the ladies of the house relaxed and put their feet up and the men did the cooking and washing up etc as a way of saying thanks to the lady for her hard work in preparation for Christmas and for her cullinary excellence involved in a very enjoyable Christmas Dinner. A couple of years ago the Emy Belles revived the tradition but made it very easy on the menfolk as instead of having to do the cooking the men looked after the house and children and allowed the ladies to go out together to an arranged party. The idea was slow to catch on but this year 2019 saw a huge increase in numbers as about 100 womenfolk gathered with Minister Heather Humphreys in the Westenra Hotel for a dinner followed by Kris Kindle and then music and song. Well done to the organisers, and Geraldine in particular, for the excellent work in developing the night and increasing the numbers. A more extensive report will follow as the event is in progress as I post this and the full details are not to hand. I just took these pictures and escaped quietly. We hope they have a very enjoyable night.
