In Praise of Emyvale And Glaslough. Good citizens of Emyvale I’m sure you are relieved The competition is over and your goal you have achieved. For six years in succession now, that well-earned prize has come And congrats go to everyone for all the good work done. It is no mean achievement to keep a tidy town Through all the seasons of the year, much litter floats around But vigilant observers are always on the move And bins are so obliging, no litter will refuse. It’s a perfect rural setting for this little country town, The lush and verdant hills around, no fairer could be found. It’s a hive of great industry for furniture and shoes And Silverhill for ducklings, none better could be found. The shops and pubs are friendly as everyone they greet And with a brand new restaurant, the scene is all complete. Glaslough deserves a word of praise for victory once they knew The tidiest town in Ireland and a plaque to prove it too. It is indeed a pretty spot where wild deer freely roam Amidst those ancient woodlands for them a perfect home. With wildlife in abundance in the early morning dawn Those songbirds all in harmony to greet another morn. A village bathed in sunshine completes that lovely scene And if those fine stone walls could talk, what history we would gleen. A pub where country folk drop in to have a drink or two And a talk with friends and neighbours about things they plan to do. The Castle of the Leslies completes this perfect scene Where titled lords and ladies were once held in high esteem. We now solute these two small towns for all the points they won And may good fortune shine on them for many years to come. By Kathleen Treanor
