Nation wide a Heritage Week is organised from 18th to 26th of August and the Heritage
section of Monaghan County Council have put together a very full, interesting and
encompassing programme of events to be held in the county during the Heritage Week.
Led by Heritage officer, Shirley Clerkin and supported by Sandra McQuaid and Rory
Sheehan the programme takes in every aspect of heritage and every area of the county.
The programme was launched by Chairman of the Hertiage committee, George Knight,
at a function held in the Sliabh Beagh Htoel last week. The meeting was addressed
by Chris Uys, Development Officer with Community Wetlands in Abbeyleix and he spoke
of the necessity for mankind to protect and develop nature and the natural environment
and to preserve our heritage. Shirley Clerkin gave a brief summary of the programme
and thanked Sandra for her work in preparing the booklet containing all the events
planned for the week. As I have said above - there is something happening in every
area of the county and if you are interested you can get one of the booklets, go
on line or consult adverts in the local media. The range of topics covered and places
visited during the week will cater for all tastes and interests from the young to
the not-so-young, from the knowledgeable to the person who knows little about heritage,
and all can benefit from participation in some of the events.
