On Wednesday, June 19th Ann and I presented a cheque for €7,300 to the Balmer family for the Gavin Glynn Foundation. This was the proceeds from our Tea/Coffee afternoon, which we held in our home on Tuesday June 4th last. On the day and since then the generosity of the people from local and neighbouring communities has astounded us and we are so grateful to all. The Gavin Glynn Foundation assisted the Balmer family while Francis was receiving treatment in Germany and they will now present this and other monies raised to the Foundation so that other families can receive the same assistance. Since its start the Foundation has assisted 64 families of sick children needing treatment abroad. The Foundation looks after travel, car transfers, accommodation and living expenses for the family as the whole family transfers to Germany or the place of treatment. The Balmer family have the highest praise for the what the Foundation did for them - relieving them of the stress and worry of arranging these things for themselves and now they are helping to ensure that the Foundation will be in a position to offer the same support to other families. As for us - we thoroughly enjoyed the event and it was lovely to see so many coming to us in support. We had a free draw for all who attended the house on the day and the Galway Crystal Vase was won by Mary Lavery and the beautiful cake was won by Sarah McKernan. We donated the vase and the cake was also donated. We would also like to thank all who contributed food, who helped serve, who helped us prepare for the day including erecting a marquee which we were unable to use due to the heavy rainfall, all who helped advertise the event, the Balmer and Matthews families for their support, and most important we would like to thank the huge number of people who attended and donated on the day and also the many many people who were unable to attend but who also gave donations. Thank you all.
