Gary Bit the Bullet and they chopped the Mullet: Gary Mohan, the county and Truagh Gaels footballer has, for the past year and a half, allowed his hair to grow with modern styles included. However recently he decided to get his long locks cut back and when he decided to bite the bullet and get the chop he also decided to get sponsorship for doing so. His chosen recipient for money raised was Errigal Truagh Special Needs, who rely solely on fundraising to carry out the amazing work they do in the beautiful facility they have created for everyone who attends. He decided to organise a Charity Shave Event on the 5th of November in Gaeil Truicha function room and hold an auction for one lucky person to have the razor in their hands to cut his hair. He also opened a Gofundme page and people have been very generous in their contributions. On Saturday November 5th a huge crowd gathered in Truagh GAA centre and all enjoyed a great night of entertainment and many went home with fantastic prizes, which they won in a Raffle where all prizes were sponsored by businesses throughout the county and beyond. A number of Holiday Vouchers for home and abroad were ‘auctioned’ to delighted recipients. Paddy Flood was Master of Ceremonies for the night and Bula Beag provided the lively music, which kept the toes tapping. Cora McGarvey and Cailín McKenna gave a commentary on a series of projected slides showing the Errigal Truagh Special Needs Centre and the services available there. Gary presented all the young children with a small football, which brightened the smiles on their faces and then the main event approached. Sean Griffin was the auctioneer and the bidding started and grew to over €2,000 before the hammer came down and the ‘barber’ was David McKenna. It was then that the action began as everyone cheered Gary on and he took his place on Centre Stage for all to witness the locks depart. David, with assistance from Eric, cut the first furrow from front to back and then offered the clippers to all who wished to help lay Gary’s head bare. Young and old were given the chance and even his own father helped to expose the crown. All the while Gary smiled and laughed, though for a moment towards the end he looked wide-eyed at a selfie he took of his head. Everyone gave him a huge continuous applause as he allowed himself to be pictured with friend after friend. It was a wonderful night of entertainment and well done to Gary and his helpers for organising the event. Errigal Truagh Special Needs will be presented with all money raised and this will be of great benefit to them in maintaining the excellent services they provide for the service users. Any others who would like to donate can still do so.
