Gabriel Bell Memorial Tour

Each year Emyvale Cycling Club organises a Tour of Monaghan, which is not a Race but a day of cycling round some of the Monaghan Roads. During the past year the club lost one of its energetic and committed leaders with the death of Gabriel Bell and this year they decided to run the Tour in memory of the late Gabriel. There were three alternative routes to choose from - 135km; 80km or 25km. 220 cyclists turned out for the event which had its headquarters at the Sean MacDiarmada GFC Complex at Threemilehouse. The Bell family were there and Noreen, Gabriel's wife, cut the tape for the OFF of Group 1. Mark, Dara, David and Shauna with other members of the Bell family were present and participated in the Tour. This was a hugely successful event and a fitting tribute to Gabriel who worked so hard at building up the Emyvale Club and its activity. For the cyclists the weather was favourable and there were water stops and Food stations along the routes and a welcome curry when they returned to base. Well done to the club and its many volunteers who spent a great deal of time in organising the event and making sure that everything went according to plan. The participants came for many neighbouring clubs and one man came the whole way from Tipperary to take part. At the end Shauna Bell and the family presented the Gabriel Bell Cup to the 1st Placed A4 rider in the recent Emyvale Grand Prix, Shay mallon, and this will be a perpetual cup for the years ahead.
