Ann and I were invited as guests to the Ulster Finals of the Irish Restaurant Awards,
which was held in the Hillgrove Hotel on Tuesday night, April 1st. The invitation came
to us from Raju and family, who own the Chilli Lounge Restaurant in Cavan. There was
a very full hall as representatives of Restaurants from all nine counties of Ulster were
there, though some of the winning establishments were unable to be present to collect
their prize. Monaghan had some excellent winners and there was great rejoicing when
Jamie Hughes was announced as the Monaghan winner of the Employee Excellence
section.
The event recognised exceptional talent across Ulster’s hospitality sector, with county
winners announced across eighteen categories. The Monaghan winners were: Wild
Thyme Restaurant, Conor Mee, The Courthouse, Aprilanna Barker, Taste of Tuscany,
Snaffles Restaurant at Castle Leslie Estate, Screaming Bean Cafe, Jamie Hughes from
Barley and Bean, The Batch Loaf, Andy’s Bar & Restaurant, Pocono, The Courthouse
Bar, Greenmount Restaurant, The Coachhouse & Olde Bar, Wild Thyme Restaurant,
The Squealing Pig Bar & Restaurant, Eastern Balti House, Neighbourhood, The Tavern
Bar & Restaurant @ Westenra Arms Hotel, Seamus McMahon, Brehon Brewhouse.
Congratulations to all the winners but as I said already Jamie’s win was terrific but so
too was the win for the Chilli Lounge as the Best World Cuisine in Cavan, a title they
have won every year since they opened in Cavan. The also have other titles at National
Level and will now take part in this year’s National competition, which will be held in
May. Raju Hassan and his brothers Muhon and Hira accepted the award for Best World
Cuisine, at the Irish Restaurant Awards on Tuesday night on behalf of the entire team
at the Chilli Lounge restaurant and takeaway. We were delighted to be there to rejoice
with them.
The Chilli Lounge restaurant is at
32 Main Street, Cavan. H12 E7D4
. The Hasan family opened their
Restaurant there a few years ago.
Chilli Lounge has won numerous awards
over the last few years from the
Irish Restaurant Awards, including
Best Newcomer,
Best Indian Cuisine,
Best World Cuisine,
Best Indian Restaurant in Ulster and
I would add Ireland to that.
Raju is head man and his father and
brothers are very much involved.
It is well worth a visit and you can say that
Emyvale.net recommended it.
