Road Safety in Clara NS:
Road Safety and personal safety, especially around Halloween, has been high on the agenda in St. patrick’s National School, Clara. Monaghan Co. Co. through its Safety Officer Adrian O’Sullivan organised a Poster Competition for National School children throughout the county and the results were announced recently and two pupils from Clara NS picked up 1st Place in their respective sections. This was a great achievement for the pupils and a fantastic outcome for the school to get two 1st awards. What is more the two pupils are from the same family and they are Ciara and Ciaran Meehan. There was a huge entry for this competition and a maximum entry from Clara. On Monday, October 22nd there were two events in the school dealing with Road Safety. First of all local Garda Sergeant, Sgt Declan McGarvey, came to the school and spoke to them about Road Safety and how to avoid injuries during the Halloween period. He was very impressed with the knowledge and understanding that the pupils had and how they could answer his questions. Then Adrian O’Sullivan from Monaghan Co. Co. arrived along with Lindsay Duffy from Monaghan Sports Partnership and Kay Cassidy from Monaghan Town Library. The first duty was to present the winner pupils in the poster competition and Ciaran and Ciara received their terrific prizes. Adrian also returned the entries from the other students and praised them all for their talents and thanked them for entering. He then spoke of Safety on the Roads, at home and at play especially over the Halloween holiday. Kay and Lindsay spoke of their work and encouraged the pupils to get involved in a number of interesting activity. It was a great day for Clara NS and we hope that they will carry out the suggestions and recommendations of the visitors.
