Beauty and the Beast Panto: The panto of Beauty and the Beast, written by Mairead Cassidy, and directed by Barry McSkeane and staged by Monaghan Dramatic Society, is running in the Garage Theatre this weekend and next weekend and after enjoying this show on its opening night I can recommend it for young and old. My thoughts took a trip down memory lane during this show as I recalled the days gone by when I was a member of the Monaghan Dramatic Society and performed in pantos and other dramatic plays and productions and then our own annual Panto in the Emyvale Inn with Tony Hennessy as our producer and director - those were the days!! This production lives up to the great reputation of the Monaghan Dramatic Society and it held the interests of young and old from start to finish. There was audience participation and they were integrated into the plot as the cast made its way through the audience. The lead parts were played to perfection and it was terrific to see so many talented young people involved and performing professionally. The costumes and set design are top class and sound was excellent throughout, with maybe one little blip. The colourful lighting added to the atmosphere and made for a terrific show and one that you will enjoy.
