Club Volunteer of the Year 2017

Congratulations to Jim McCluskey who was presented with his Award as Club Volunteer of the Year 2017 at a presentation ceremony in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan, on Wednesday, December 13th. The citation submitted with his nominations reads as follows:

Emyvale GAA Club has nominated Jim Mc Cluskey for the Volunteer Appreciation Award

Jim is “The Quiet Man” in the club as he works tirelessly without fuss so we are glad to have this opportunity to recognise the great contribution he makes to help with the running of our club.

Jim first got involved with the club in 2002, helping park cars for the weekly bingo session but soon progressed  to helping out with the running of the bingo and every Thursday evening, Jim turns up without fail to help and make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Jim looks after the “Emylott” on Sunday evenings,  supervises the checking of envelopes and looks after everything else that goes with the running of our weekly Lotto.

You could set your watch to Jim always on time and very conscientious in all his duties for the club and has been doing this week in week out for the last 15 years.

Whenever Emyvale hosts Championship matches, Jim is there to help with the parking of cars or whatever else he is asked to do.

Emyvale is very fortunate in having someone like Jim because he is dependable, trustworthy and ever ready to help out when asked to.

This is a fine tribute to Jim and words could never express fully the commitment and dedication shown by him in all his work for the club, and as the citation says - he does it all so quietly and without a fuss. Of course it is marvellous that Jim gets this recognition as it may spur a few others in clubs all over the county to get involved and help out. It is also great for the Emyvale club that the name McCluskey is still so dominant as Jim's uncle, Seamus, gave a lifetime of immense and generous contribution of voluntary service to the GAA and Emyvale club in particular. Our congratulations  again to Jim - it is an award that has been truly deserved.
