U14 Championship Final

Emyvale U14 squad faced Monaghan Harps in the U14 Championship final for 2011. The game was played at St. Mellans and, though there was heavy rain just before the throw-in and for the first 5 minutes or so, conditions dried up and the weather could not be accused of having a bearing on the outcome. The first half was fairly evenly matched even though the Harps were playing the better football. Some of the prominent Emyvale players were finding it difficult to find form and were allowing the Monaghan girls take control of vital areas of the field. There was a bit of positional changing trying to find the right combination but nothing was changing. The beginning of the second half belonged to the Harps as they took control and played great attacking football. Emyvale players were dithering and losing possession through mistakes. There were solid performances from some members of the defence and without them the game would have gone too far from them to come back. The Harps then began to slow the pace and run out of steam giving Emyvale the opening and they used it to great advantage to get back level and then go ahead. Try as they might the Harps could not match the final onslaught and they sent a couple of chances wide of target. Both keepers played a vital role for their teams and we wish Stephanie Lynch a speedy recovery from her injury. Eimear McAnespie was a leading light for Emyvale with good support from Dolores Hughes and Natasha Hughes. Erin O’Rourke was good fro Monaghan Harps with a fine performance from Shannon Donnelly. Great win for Emyvale and congrats to all the players and their mentors.
