U 12 Boys: Donagh 33pts Queens Warriors 18pts

The under 12 boys were up first in a busy weekend schedule of basketball for Donagh BC and they got off to a flyer when they beat Queens Warriors from Belfast convincingly in St Macartans on Saturday

Michael McDonnell, Andrew O Connor, Andrew McKenna, Conor McKenna and Dylan McKenna were on court first and fell behind to a Queens’s basket after they missed some chances themselves, but they kept fighting and eventually pulled level with a basket from Andrew O Connor. Michael Mc Donnell scored from a rebound to give Donagh the advantage. John Campbell came on half way through and they thwarted any Queens’s attacks.

Ryan Treanor, Eoghan Treanor, Jason Hamill, Colin McQuaid and Kyle Tracey were out next and they got the better of the Queens five. Jason Hamill hit 2 baskets and Colin shot 3 pts 1 from the free throw line as Donagh went into a commanding lead. The Donagh lads were playing really well at this stage. The visitors did score one basket but Tadhg Lester who replaced Kyle extended the lead to 13pts to 4pts.

Andrew, Michael, John, Conor and Andrew Mc Kenna started the 3rd quarter and despite a slow start they improved and played better basketball towards the end of the quarter. They scored 14pts to Queens 6pts in this period with some good ball handling skills by Andrew McKenna. Switches were made and the team kept improving.

The fourth quarter was a strong performance too as they commanded the court and shot up another 8pts, Dylan, Ryan, Jason, Colin, Eoghan, Tadhg and Kyle all playing well. It was a tremendous score line for lads so young. Great second win!

Team and Scorers: Andrew O Connor 8pts, Tadhg Lester 6pts, Colin McQuaid 5pts, Jason Hamill 4pts, Ryan Treanor 4pts, Michael McDonnell 2pts, John Campbell 2pts, Andrew McKenna 2pts, Conor McKenna, Dylan McKenna, Eoghan Treanor and Kyle Tracey.
