Tyrone Player Cathal McCarron gets in a little bit of practice ahead of this Sunday afternoon's Tyrone GAA Family Day in Healy Park. There will be an opportunity for all children to get autographs and photos with the players from both teams after the Tyrone v Monaghan league game.

The Tyrone GAA County Board wish to confirm that Mickey Harte will manage the Tyrone senior football team until at least the end of the 2015 championship campaign. Mickey was in the final year of his current three term this season. However a decision taken by the Tyrone Management committee to offer him another three year term and this was endorsed by the County Committee in Carrickmore on Tuesday night.

Mickey Harte spoke this afternoon to TyroneGAA.ie after confirming that he would be accepting the position. “It is a great privilege to be asked by the County Committee to take charge of the Tyrone Senior Football team and I gladly accepted that offer. To be asked to manage the best players that your county has to offer is still a wonderful honour".

The game of Hurling in Tyrone has had somewhat of a rollercoaster existence over the last few decades. More recently the outlook for Hurling has seen somewhat of an upward increase in popularity and that trend looks certain to continue with the news that Tipperary’s All Ireland winning Hurling Manager Liam Sheedy and GAA’s National Hurling Coordinator Paudie Butler are to act as mentors for the development of Hurling in Tyrone.

County Board Chairman Ciaran McLaughlin stated that “the aim of this programme is to significantly increase the participation and enjoyment of playing and learning the game of hurling for children between the ages of 7 and 13 years of age. If we can do that then we’ve achieved something tangible and something that can be built upon. We’re delighted to have two men of the calibre of Liam Sheedy and Paudie Butler involved”.

Tyrone Hurling Officer Brendan Harkin is also pleased to be getting the first Hurling Development day up and running. “The game of hurling is more than just a game. It’s something that is woven deeply into the social fabric of Irish people and that very much includes GAA people here on Tyrone. The Hurling Development day in Killyclogher on Saturday 12th May will offer U12’s from all clubs in Tyrone the opportunity to pick up a hurl and learn from two of Ireland’s greatest coaches”.

All GAA clubs in Tyrone are asked to bring along ten U12 players and five or six adults who may be willing to give the game a go.
