Gala Ball:
Truagh GFC entered another successful event into their history books when they organised and held a hugely successful Gala Ball in the Hillgrove Hotel to celebrate the club’s 60th Birthday. Guests of Honour were the members of the First Committee and the team of 1958. Many unfortunately have passed to their eternal reward and their award was accepted by a member of the family when available. Those honoured were - Patrick McGeough, Celestine McKenna, Sean Finn, Peter Sweeney, Peter McKenna, Peter Sherry, Fr. Tom Breen, Jimmy McKenna, Liam Costello, Packie Deery, JImmy Treanor, Packie Brady, Benny Connolly, Pat Carbin, Seamus Kerr, Owen McKenna, Eugene Treanor, Genie Owens, Peadar McGeough, Mick Kelly, Sean McQuaid, Seamus Treanor, Jimmy Byrnes, Sean Columb, Pat treanor, Charlie McKenna, George McMeel, Mick McKenna. Chairman of the club, Michael Treanor, welcomed all and thanked everyone for their support and wished everyone a most enjoyable evening. Compere for the night was the well-know comedian, Gene Fitzpatrick, and he had bodies shaling with the laughter. Special guest was the President of the GAA John Horan, who attended with his wife Paula. Also present was Monaghan County Baord Chairman, Michael O McMahon. All enjoyed a hearty meal and then the presentations were made by the President. Brian Teanor conducted this part of the proceedings. Two presentation of monies were made by Club Treasurer, Michael Todd, and they were to SOSAD, accepted by Stephen Dalton and the other to Truagh Special Needs, accepted by Michael Flood. There was also an auction for twelve items and they went for ‘good money’ as the bidding was fast anf furious. After all the formalities the dancing got under way and Gerry Gutherie and his Band provided excellent music to get the toes tapping. All in all a very successful event and one that can take its place along with all the other successes of the Club during the past 60 years.
