Over recent decades a generation of Treanors has attended the Knockconan National School but last Summer the last of that generation said farewell to Knockconan. There were 21 members of the Mullanderg Treanors in that generation and Bernard was the first to attend the school followed by his siblings and cousins until the last in the line, Oisin, son of Ciaran and Pauline. The family decided to mark the occasion and that bit of history by planting a tree at the new Knockconan in the Blackwater Learning Centre. On Sunday, October 30th they planted a Chestnut Tree in the grounds and a plaque will be erected to commemorate the event.
Our picture shows Ciaran and Oisin and other members of the Treanor and McRory families at the tree-planting ceremony. Also present is Ms. Brennan, School Principal and staff member, Ms. Boyle.
