EMYVALE
Team Photo
The team photo on our front page has sparked a big response and there is some disagreement in regard to the identity of a couple of the players. Now we are going back a bit in time and this photo has never appeared before. Now some of the details submitted so far:
The photo was likely taken in 1949 or 1950. The reason given is that the colour of jersey worn in the photo is the Red and Blue jersey. Now the Minors of 1950 were the first to wear the new Black and White and followed either end of 1950 or beginning of 1951 with the seniors in black and white. There was no senior team in 1948 so it is more likely to have been after that. However it may have been that the team just used an old set of the Red and Blue for this game, which was likely a ‘challenge’ game.
The game was likely during the Emyvale Sports as it appears to be in Tully with he number of people in the background and the hedge to the right being the Tully Lane. As well Emyvale was still playing officially at Shanco as Truagh had no team at the time, which is also the reason why you might see a Truagh man on the team.
The names that have come in so far are:
Back row L to R: Sonny Treanor (RIP); Tommy O’Neill (RIP); Willie Harvey (RIP); Benny Connolly (RIP) / A.N. Other; Packie Deery (RIP); Pat Farmer (RIP); Francie Treanor (RIP); Johnny McKenna.
Front Row L to R: Seosamh Fields (RIP); John Connolly (RIP) / A.N. Other; Johnny McAree; Malachy Corrigan (RIP); Kevin O’Neill (RIP); and Barney Treanor / A.N. Other.
So we have a few problems there that need a solution. Can anyone else help out? If you know someone from that era perhaps you would ask them if they can remember anything about the team.
