St. Macartan’s College U16 soccer team with mentors Enda McCabe and Dermot McAree made it through to the quarter-finals and they were drawn against Carndonagh and the game was played at Gortakeegan on Wednesday, January 25th. Conditions were blustery and wet making ball control difficult but that was equal for both sides. From the start the Sem boys were under pressure and Carndonagh looked more in control though the better skills were displayed by Monaghan. However Donegal had a very strong defence and a couple of very dangerous forwards and these came more into the game in the second half when they scored three goals to no reply. The Donegal lads were also more physical and were able to use that to put the Monaghan boys off the ball. The game ended 3 - 0 and Carndonagh now goes forward to the semi-finals.
