Rough Weather. Today saw a strong storm pass through the area and many are suffering from the after effects, which is usually – no power.  We should really show more appreciation to the Crews who go out in all sorts of weather to repair lines so that we can get back ‘to normal’ as soon as possible. We are so spoiled with modern appliances that we become lost when the power goes off. We can’t cook, we can’t watch TV, we can’t charge telephones, we can’t go on-line and we can’t sit in the dark and we dearly wish that those men out there would get this power up and running asap. There are also added dangers during weather like we had today, Wednesday September 19th.  There is the possibility of flash floods on the roads, there are pieces of falling debris from buildings, and there are falling trees. If there are dangers on the road there is usually action to remove the danger but it would not be possible to remove all the trees along the roadways of Ireland.  Perhaps maybe an expert could be hired to advise Councils on what trees are looking dangerous and what ones should be removed but that would be drastic, time consuming and not guaranteed to remove the danger completely. There are other dangers too as was seen today when the Caravan was blown over the cliff and a lady lost her life. So we need to take extra care and only take chances when there is no alternative. According the Gerry Murphy, Met Eireann, we can expect more of this type of weather in the coming years as climate change is happening. In my own mind I think that weather goes round in circles and that years ago we had similar types of weather but then we never know. We are heading into the time of year for storms of one kind or another and it is not the most popular time in my mind. As a matter of fact I do not like the Autumn as nature is going into recess and colours change to dull browns and blacks. Leaves fall and cause slippery conditions under foot and make a mess generally and clog up a drainage system. The more trees the more leaves and the more mess. It is said that decomposed leaves makes good compost and fertiliser but that entails more work. I like shrubs but trees cause problems and are dangerous during storms. Anyhow I hope that no one around will suffer as a result of the storms and that those who depend on electric for their essential work or health will not find themselves without power.
