Pride of Place in Glaslough

Three areas of County Monaghan are in the final stages of the National Competition called Pride of Place. Ardaghey are former winners in this prestigious competition and it is hoped that further honours will be coming to the county in 2011. Clones, Glaslough and Inniskeen are all in there and the judges paid a visit to the areas on Thursday, August 18th and the people of those areas tried to put on their best display of community to impress the judges.

The competition is organised by Co-operation Ireland and the entrants are nominated by the County Council. The Gala Awards event is held in November and we hope that Glaslough will be coming back in celebration.

However it is an honour for the area to be nominated as it shows that there is a very vibrant community and has active participation in many projects. These were all on display in Oakland Centre in Thursday morning and the number and activities of the various groups and organisations demonstrated a very high level of involvement and success. This must surely have impressed the judges. A presentation with slide show was delivered by Louise Duffy in which she detailed the many facets of community life available in and around Glaslough and when all of that is put together it puts a very strong spotlight on the area as worthy of national recognition.

Below we have some photos of some of the displays. And as you will see - even the ‘pets’ came along too.
