Play Day in Edenbeg

The BCCN (Border Counties Childhood Network) promoted World Play Day on Monday May 28th and Play Awareness Week from May 28th to June 3rd. Its purpose is to celebrate the value of play for young children. Dr. Noirin Hayes says -’ the opportunity and ability to play in many different ways during early childhood is vital for promoting children’s health, well-being, learning and overall development. Children need play to learn and to learn to play’. We visited Edenbeg Childcare Centre and we discovered plenty of play and a great variety of play going on while we were there. The benefits were obvious as all were engrossed in what they were doing. Some were planting a new flower bed, some were painting a large banner, some were making sand-castles, some were experiencing the feel of various substances while others were playing the more traditional sort of play with the little dolls house. It was a lovely place to be and one would recall ones own early days at school and remember things like playing with corn beads in Mrs. Hackett’s room.
