The scene of destruction at the Northern entry to the village of Emyvale, after a Milk Tanker, travelling from Northern Ireland, crashed into four buildings, demolishing the front portion of three and badly damaging a fourth. The driver sadly did not survive the crash and this is a very sad event for the village, when someone, who is just passing through, dies, especially in these circumstances.

Two FAS workers had a close call, as they were working on the pavement at the scene just minutes prior to the arrival of the lorry.
Another teenager was asleep in the fourth house, when the house rocked with the impact and he was rescued from the building by a neighbour, who rushed to the scene. Miraculously the young man was not injured.
The occupants of the other houses were absent at the time as otherwise the fatalities could have been greater.
