All-Ireland Titles.
Emyvale and Monaghan featured on a number of stages at National level this weekend. The Emyvale Scor Figure dancing team took the stage in the All-Ireland finals in Killarney and captured the honours. Emyvale Set Dancing team was also in the final but were runners-up. From all accounts the Emyvale Ballad Group would have walked away with the All-Ireland title too had they not been robbed in the Ulster final, but then that is Scor.
Emyvale Handballer, Darren Doherty, won the All-Ireland title in the U13 section of the National championships held in Kingscourt on Sunday last too. We also congratulate Padraig McKenna, Truagh, who won the U15 sections. Both of these players will take part in the World Championships in Canada in October and we wish them every success at the highest level.
Marion Donnelly, ex-chairperson of Emyvale GFC, and currently Treasurer of Coiste Contae Mhuineachain, was selected as a member of the GAA Finance Committee at Croke Park. This is a great honour for her and Emyvale and we are confident that she will do an excellent job in her position on this prestigious committee.
We also congratulate our County Chairman, John Connolly, on his appointment to the Code of Ethics Committee at Croke Park. This is another very important appointment and an onerous task but John will be capable of a great contribution.
The All-Ireland Scor team and Darren were bused into Emyvale on an open truck and after a lap of the town went into the Leisure Centre. Master of Ceremonies, Seamus McCluskey, introduced them and extended congratulations. John Connolly, Elish McEntee, County Secretary, Marion Donnelly and Padraig Treanor, Club Chairman, added their words of praise and congratulations to Darren, to the members of the Dance team and their mentor, Gerard McQuaid, and this was greeted with a standing ovation from the very big crowd of people, who turned out to honour the winners. After the speeches the team performed their winning ‘Three tunes’ for the audience.
On this page and next we display some photos of the occasion.
