EMYVALE
It is with regret that we announce the death of Fr, Eugene McQuaid. Fr. Genie, as he was known to many, has been in failing health for some time and passed away yesterday (Saturday) evening. He spent his life ministering to people in America, and some of his former parishioners have visited him in Drumbear Nursing Home in recent months. We have received some lovely email messages from America recalling him and his caring and attentive nature and also for his fine singing. Fr, Eugene is brother of Johnny, Patsy, Peter, Gertie, Alice, Patricia and Fr, Macartan.
His remains will repose in Johnny’s house until removal to Ballyoisin Church on tomorrow (Monday) evening at 6pm. The Funeral Mass, followed by burial, will take place at 12 noon on Tuesday - again in Ballyoisin.
We offer our sincere sympathies to his family and very wide circle of friends and relations.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam naofa.
Just had an email from Dolie Brown, nee McEvoy, in New Jersey and she tells me that there was a special Mass for Fr. Eugene in Toms River Church. It was organised by Mike and Kathleen McCluskey, who are originally from Emyvale. Tony and Eileen McKenna, originally from Scotstown, were at the Mass too. Dolie, together with her sister Helena and her husband, Johnny, called last year to see Fr. Eugene, when they were in Ireland on a visit and they kept in constant contact to get updates on his condition. They were very sad at his passing as he was a great friend to them over the years.
