Music From The Valley.
The Blackwater Valley School Of Traditional Music presented its Christmas Recital 2009 on Friday night Dec 4th to a packed hall in the Blackwater Centre. Under the direction of music teacher, Marina, more than 60 young musicians entertained the crowd with their talents in song, dance and musicianship. Then some visiting artists were present and they showed what practice can achieve and we were really privileged to witness such experts in action and I include Paraic Mohan with the group of Jim Woods, Robbie Walsh, John Cunningham, Michael O’Sullivan, Shauna Moore, and locals - Una McGinnity and Amelia Murphy.
The people of North Monaghan are really spoiled when one witnessed such talent performing to such a high standard and providing a concert that equals and indeed betters anything to be found anywhere in Ireland. Well done to all involved in the tutoring of the music and in particular to Marina and to all who had a hand in producing and presenting a fabulous night of traditional music, song and dance. Thanks also to those who provided the tea and eats and to excellent MC Paul and John and Martin on sound and lights. Of course no Christmas Concert would be complete without the Big Man himself and, surrounded by Snow White and the Seven rather large dwarfs, Santa appeared and had presents for all the young folk in the Hall.
