Emyvale Club’s Annual Dinner Dance 2010

Emyvale CLG held its annual dinner dance in the Four Seasons Hotel on Saturday, March 20th. It was a special year for the club as they succeeded in capturing the County and Ulster Junior Club Championship and narrowly missed out on a chance of playing the All-Ireland final in Croke Park. Special guest at the function was newly elected President of the Ulster Council, Aogan Ó Fearghail, who congratulated the club on what it had achieved and thanked it for the work it is doing in so many areas to promote the GAA. Monaghan County Board was represented by Sean Murphy, assistant secretary. The event was celebrating the football success for the men but also the ladies, who had won an All-Ireland Sevens title and the Scor dancers who also won an All-Ireland title. Handball too had major success during the past year with World titles being brought home by Darren Doherty who had been celebrated earlier in the year by the club. It was a joyous night for all and a fitting end to a great year for the club but the work has to begin again for the 2010 season.

On Saturday night Geraldine Mohan was an excellent MC and she introduced the various formalities. Awards were presented to: Daniel McMahon as Player of the Year: Brendan Askin as Reserve Player of the Year; Patrick Mulroe as Reserve C POY: Barry Hughes as U21 Player of the Year; Gareth McQuaid as Minor Player of the Year; Aine McAree as Minor Player of the Year for the ladies; Laura McKenna as Reserve Player; Grainne McNally as Senior Player of the Year; the Ladies and Men’s Management personnel; Peter Larkin in Handball; special award for Ciara and Aoife McAnespie (this award was picked up by Brenda as the girls were ivolved in All-Ireland finals with their College); Marie Murphy was presented with the Peggy McQuaid Memorial Shield for her contribution to Scor over many years; Marty McAree as Player of the Match in the Ulster Junior Club Final; and to the Ulster President to mark his visit to the Club.
